Some Tips To Help You Maintain The Centre Pivot Irrigation System


The centre irrigation system is becoming an increasingly popular method of irrigation in Australia. Here are a few tips to keep your irrigation equipment in top condition.

Drive Train 

To extend the life of the drive train incentre linear, pivots and other irrigation equipment and avoid centre pivot repair, you need to periodically drain the water which gets accumulated in the gear box and centre drive. You also need to ensure that the gear lubricant is in the right place and at the proper level. 

Wheel Ruts

During the off-season, fill the deep wheel tracks. It will reduce the stress on tillage, irrigation and harvest equipment. To help prevent tracking in the future, you can also consider changing to a higher floatation tire. Apart from this, there are also options like adding some modifications to reduce the water applied to the wheel tracks or add a floatation drive unit. 

Energy Efficiency 

If done properly, you can not only avoid pump repairs in Qld but minimise the cost of water pumping by reducing the operating pressure of the machine. However, the pressure must be reduced to such a point that there is already enough pressure to operate the sprinkler package efficiently.  Monitor the pivoting pressure regularly or at regular intervals to ensure it is at a moderate level. This method must be followed throughout the agricultural season.

Tire Pressure

To ensure that your centre pivot system works efficiently, the correct tire pressure needs to be maintained. This fact is also true to centre linear and other irrigation equipment. Correct tire pressure is important because pressure ensures the correct level of floatation for a particular tire andis maximised along with the rolling circumference. Check the tire pressure and adjust it according to the specification. Tightening the wheel lug nuts to evaluate the overall condition of the tire is necessary.

Keeping these factors in mind will avoid unnecessary centre pivot repairs and keep the equipment running efficiently during the entire agricultural season.
